Parents’ workshop – Stretching Your Child’s Potential in Mathematics – How can parents help?
About the speaker
Mr Hang Kim Hoo, is currently a Vice-President of the Singapore Mathematical Society. He holds a Master of Education and a Master of Science degree. He has taught Mathematics over a 10-year period to gifted children at Raffles Institution as well as express and normal course, and Pre-U students at New Town Secondary School. After his stint as the Senior Curriculum Specialist (Mathematics) at the Ministry of Education, he served as Principal of Clementi Town Secondary School from 2000 to 2004.
Synopsis
The workshop will provide participants an insight into the some important aspects of learning mathematics and mathematical problem solving. The speaker will share with participants some methods through which children can be more productively engaged to develop mathematical reasoning and problem solving skills. These processes can meaningfully enhanced children’s mathematical experiences and their conceptual understanding in mathematics. As the workshop focuses on generic processes, it is open to all parents of children who are at primary or secondary levels.
